Pregnancy is not a medical condition, so you do not need to declare it. You would only be required to declare, pregnancy related conditions, if there are any.
Our policies include emergency medical expenses cover for pregnancy and childbirth from week 0 to week 28 inclusive, whilst the customer is away.
From the start of week 29 to week 40 of the pregnancy, there is no cover for claims relating to normal pregnancy and normal childbirth or cancellation. However, medical expenses and cancellation cover will be provided if any of the following complications arise:
- Toxaemia
- Gestational hypertension
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Post-partum haemorrhage
- Pre-eclampsia
- Molar pregnancy or hydatidiform mole
- Retained placenta membrane
- Placental abruption
- Hyperemesis gravidarum
- Placenta praevia
- Stillbirth
- Miscarriage
- Emergency Caesarean
- A termination needed for medical reasons
- Premature birth more than 12 weeks (or 16 weeks if you know you are having more than one baby) before the expected delivery date
Please note TIF will not cover denial of boarding by their carrier, so they should check that they will be able to travel with the carrier/airline in advance.
It is essential, pregnant customers have the required vaccinations for their trip. No cover will be provided for cancellation in the event that, after booking, they discover travel is advised against, or they are unable to receive the required vaccinations for the country they are due to visit.
Other Cancellation Claims Queries
- A customer purchases a policy, prior to finding out they are pregnant and don't want to travel? Would this be classed as disinclination of travel? - No cover, as disinclination of travel.
- A customer purchases a policy knowing they are pregnant but then afterwards, finds out there are complications, meaning they can no longer travel or have been medically told not to travel? - Customer is entitled to claim as it was unforeseen at the time.
- Customer knows they are pregnant with complications at time of purchase and we have also screened for their medical conditions i.e. related pregnancy complications. However, they can no longer travel, as medically advised not to? - Customer is entitled to claim as they have declared their medical conditions and these have been accepted by us. If the customer experiences pregnancy related complications (that are not screened) which were not foreseen at the time of purchase, the customer can claim.
