All calls for Car Insurance will divert directly to Somerset Bridge to handle on our behalf, acting as ‘Holiday Extras Car Insurance’.
In a few weeks, we will be able to give you a hotkey to transfer customers directly across but for now please just give them the Holiday Extras Car Insurance number, 0800 083 5471, if you get any calls coming your way by mistake. We are unable to handle any queries regarding this product. All queries need to be directed to Somerset Bridge.
Please explain they have come through to the Hotel/Parking department and you will transfer them to the dedicated Car Insurance Team, who will be happy to help them.
At present, we have targeted approximately 10K customers and therefore expect calls (if any) to be minimal.
Why HX Car Insurance?
95% of Holiday Extras customers provide us with their car registration details when they make a booking with us and trust us with their car whilst they are abroad. They are lower risk drivers (older, more experienced) and have higher value cars (National avg resale value is £3k, our customers cars are worth £9k) than the general population; an attractive audience for car insurance.

Working with our partner we have reduced this question set considerably (28 questions instead of 49) and so you can get a quote quicker. Holiday Extras is going to be creating leads for Car Insurance sales. The sales will be handled by FCA regulated insurance company, Somerset Bridge Insurance Services. We will be their “Appointed Representative”. We chose Somerset Bridge because they could provide:
- An online quote journey in Holiday Extras branding
- Call centre for sales and service
- Claims handling
- Relationships with a panel of underwriters
- Over the last few months we have been asking our customers on the 'almost done page' what their car insurance renewal month is, in order to gather leads for when we launch.
- We've had 10k leads so far.
- We will move the question (and link to quote engine) to the post booking page post launch. And our launch email will target customers who expressed interest with a 5% discount.
- We will end every month to customers with renewal dates in the following two months
- Dedicated announcement email to introduce product to entire database during January.
- Introduction content block in main weekly email after that.
What will be the value to the business if this product sells well?
Our modelling suggests that over 5 years, if we can build a book of 50,000 policies, we could be generating £1m additional profit for the group per year.
This trial is low cost. We are using a 3rd party so that we can see if it works. If it does, we will invest more to grow the product. For now, we are testing how our customers react and whether we can can convert leads to sales and create happy discounts.
