Essential (TIF) - General policy rules?

Underwriter - We are moving the underwriting of the Essential Travel product over to Travel Insurance Facilities (TIF) as of 6th November 2019.

Schemes - Scheme names will remain the same and will sit in the same campaigns.

We are reducing down to 3 different levels Essential, Essential Plus & Superior (i.e Standard will be removed)

Backpacker will just have 2 levels Essential & Essential Plus

Cover Levels - Cover levels and excesses remain the same with the following exceptions.

  • Failure of Carrier is being removed from all levels of cover
  • Scheduled Airline Failure is being added to Superior level only
  • Available for 18-55 years and a max duration for medical policies of 365 days and for non medical 720 days.

Durations & Age Limits - These will remain the same

Medical declaration - We are moving to the same gatekeepers as the main HX products

Essential Travel schemes will now fall under the same rules as the other TIF products

  • Customers must declare medical, they will not have the option to exclude conditions
  • Customers must notify us of any changes in health both on single and annual policies

Destinations - Country mapping will be moving to the same as the main HX products

Sports & activities - These remain the same as in the existing Essential schemes (i.e they are different to the main HX schemes still)

Add-ons - Remain the same, we are just renaming the activity cover options so they match what they are called in the wordings. And Gadgets will be covered as standard, so no Gadget Cover add-on will be applicable for these policy types.

Call Guide - You will now need to follow the HX Call Guide, there is no Essential Call Guide as the statements/gatekeepers/info is the same as our main HX Call Guide - HX Main Call Guide
